How to use the Format Text dialog in drawings and have it follow the styles? Inv2020

Hi All,

This may have been asked before but I haven't seen anything on this explaining these questions.

  1. How to use the the Format Text Dialog to ensure contents continuously follows text style?
  2. Only text written (Image1) in the text box follows the style. Pasting in text (Image2) brings in that text style and there is no match existing style button ( paint brush) like all Microsoft products. How are people doing this? The text ends up being overwritten and does not update when the style is changed.🙉
  3. Why does the Change style text box become greyed out when initial text box is created? Any future changes to the text contents by changing the style requires a new box to be created. Then you need to copy in the text contents which leads you back to question 2 and around in circles. 🙉1.Text Editor Written Text.PNG

    2.Text Editor Pasted Text.PNG

Solved it with a more targeted Google search "FORMAT TEXT BOX STYLE DROP DOWN GREYED OUT INVENTOR "

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/change-text-style-of-an-existing-text/td-p/6558429

3.Text Editor Follows Style.PNG

Solution:

Exit the format text editor and highlight the text you want to change the style on pick from the drop down. All the text will then change to the style in use. All custom text editing (font & size) will be overwritten by active style.

LOL I have only being overwriting the text in the active style for multiple years🤣, Perhaps this option should be available in the format text editor where the modification is taking place!!

I agree with you that it would be nice to have the choice in the dialog.  Your suggested workaround is fine for just text, but for Leader Text, the style shown in the drop-down is a dimension style, not a text style.  Changing that doesn't change the text style.

Another workaround: paste the text into Notepad first, then copy it from there to the text dialog.
