How to plot a mean camber line onto an aerofoil sketch?

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've only recently started using Inventor Professional 2019 and learning as I go along. I have designed an aerofoil and now need to plot a mean camber line on it to determine maximum camber but not really getting anywhere. Any help would be much appreciated.

Looking at your sketches I understand what you are describing, what I don't understand is what you mean by plotting the mean camber line into your existing sketch?

My thoughts are extrude what you currently have in the Inventor sketch you show, then create a new sketch for the mean camber.  If this mean camber already exists in another sketch say Autocad or another Inventor sketch, you can window it and do a ctrl C ctrl V to get it into this model.  Then you can extrude it as a surface that you will see interface in your model.

Hope this makes sense.

Do you have an excel file with points defined, if so, you could import those and use the spline option on import. Or, if you know the formula, you can use an equation curve to define the points. Else, if you know critical points along the curve, you can place and dimension them, then draw a spline from point to point controlling the spline handles as necessary.  Just a thought.

Do you mean something like this? There may well be a quicker way of doing it but I think this may be a starter for you.
