How to make a triangular prism into a square pyramid

Hi,

In the design I'm trying to make, it calls for a square pyramid. I've already extruded a triangular prism and I'm wondering if there's a way to make it into a square pyramid, or some other way I can make the square pyramid

Hi @Anonymous,

There are quite a few ways to handle it, such as Loft.

Check it out for your reference, note: Sample data is based on Inventor 2018.

Hi! There are multiple ways to do that. Aside from the solutions above, you can use Extrude command to cut the unwanted portion. Or, you can use Direct Edit -> Rotate to manipulate the faces.

Many thanks!

Here is another example using Extrude Intersect.

You can get lots of good shapes generated this way from different views (Front, Right, Top) of 2D drawings.

So how about a tutorial / screencast on how draft face works.  Looked at the command and was completely puzzled.

Don't have time for a screencast (nor even have it loaded, come to think of it), but here's the quick tutorial:

The first thing you pick is the "Pull direction"-- imagine pulling a part out of a mold and you need draft in order to do so.  This direction is defined by an edge, axis, or flat face (direction is normal to a face).

The next pick is the face to be drafted, and location of the pick point matters, because the face will pivot around the edge closest to your pick point (at least that's what I've deduced, possibly incorrectly).  You may pick any number of faces to draft in one operation.

Then you enter the draft angle, either negative or positive.

It requires a bit of experimentation to figure out how all the selections work.
