I have done a circular rolled part from hollow tube using counter roll feature. After this I have used the sculpt feature to trim the part. Now after using sculpt feature I am not able to do the flat pattern for this .
Hello,
What version of Inventor are you using??
Thanks,
Thomas.
Thank you,
Can I ask what you are trying to achieve.
Is this tube in which you are bending round then putting a cut out in to slide the other tube in?
Why are you doing this as a flat pattern part?
Thank you,
Thomas
Hi
If something cannot be done conventionally, use the Unwrap tool.

Hi! Unfortunately, this is a limitation in Inventor Sheet Metal Flat Pattern. Due to the Sculpt cut, the Contour Roll lost the planar reference to unroll and unfold. As a result, there is no place to start the unfolding process. Unwrap is your best bet in this case.
Many thanks!
Hi Johnson
I understand that sculpt is not for sheet metal (though Inventor's algorithms could be more flexible).
But I don't understand why it can't be cut perpendicularly in order to keep all curvatures and correct surfaces. This looks like an bug to me.

Hi! This has nothing to do with Sculpt per-se. It is more about the cut removing all planar reference geometry, which is needed to unfold.
Many thanks!
