How to export positional presentation of an assembly

Hi,

I remember my self looking for a way how to export assembly in positional presentation, I also remember that other people ware looking for this too.

All workarounds I have found on forum seem, really work aaaarrround for me.

Just working on my current project I have, accidentally, found great (in my opinion) solution, and I want to share that with anyone who may need it.

If you want to export assembly in a positional representation do the following:

1) build your assembly as you would normally do. Define all positional presentation you need in any way you desire. There is no requirement of any kind on how you do that.

2) Create a new empty assembly (presentation assembly).

3) Place your assembly as a component in this "presentation assembly".

4) In "presentation assembly" select your component and chose "Representation" from context menu.

5) Select any of your positional representations available in you base assembly

6) Use "Save Copy As"

7) Voila

Trick is that in presentation assembly in its Master positional representation you present your base assembly in its other that master positional representation. Inventor that saves file in Master positional representation not bothering what representations components have.

I can not however understand how this can still not be possible to do straight away from base assembly. This is so underfunctional.

Cris.
