How to change Linked Parameter files

Hi All,

I have an assembly where I have created a couple of dozen parts, all of which use Linked Parameters from an object I will call OB1. It works fine and I am happy with the result.

I have a similar assembly which uses only some of the same parts, but if different enough that I need to create it in a different file which references a different set of Linked Parameters from a new object called OB2.

What I did was copy all the first file to a new file No. 2. As I expected all the parts still reference to original object OB1 from file 1.

What I needed to do was reference the new object OB2 in file 2, which I have done using the following method.

1) Opened each part and changed the linked parameter within the formula to 100.
2) Then deleted all the Linked parameters from the object in file No. 1.
3) Then Linked the parameters from the new object in file No. 2.
4) Then replace the 100 with the new linked parameter from the object in file No. 2.

This works fine, but was quite time consuming.

I expect I might have to do this type of exercise again in the future, so is there a quicker way to change the Linked Parameters from one object to another?

Hope someone out there has had this issue and knows a quicker way of doing this process.

Regards,

Chris

Hi chris.collinson,

I think that you can rename the OB1 to something like x_OB1 and then open the files, this will tell you it can't find OB1, and give you a chance to point it to OB2. Then once updated you can rename x_OB1 back to OB1.

I'm going from memory, so if that doesn't work post back.

I hope this helps.
Best of luck to you in all of your Inventor pursuits,
Curtis

Hi Chris

Sorry to bump this...

Your solution works 🙂

- but in my case, when reopening the ipt, it searched my project folder and found the missing file in my folder containing "PackAndGo" files.

How can I change that feature ?

I'm using Inventor 2020.

My solution was to move the PackAndGo folder out of the project folder. But that seems a bit weird for me.
