Hole tale - description

Hi,

It seems I am having basic problem with hole table.

I would like to have dole diameter in the description for threaded holes. But I was not able to get this done so far.

Where is a definition for value displayed in the description column of the hole table? I mean global definition not override for each field (this I can do but that's totally not what I am after. I want to set this globally).

That would be the dimension style, specifically the hole note section.

@SBix26

Tried that, but it does not work. Changing hole note definition does not cause description of the hole to change in the table, neither existing nor newly created.

Do you have working example?

Post a non-working example.  I don't think I have any drawings with hole tables currently.

Edit: what version of Inventor are you using?

So, you're doing this?

Would it be acceptable for you to just add the hole diameter as a new column?

@-niels-

So first option, with hole note edit, only edits one record in the table. And this is not what I am looking for as a solution, as this would require editing all records by hand.

Second option is some solution, but this makes the table larger and therefore more difficult to fit on the sheet.

@johnsonshiue

Johnsons, can you tell us where is a  global definition for the fields of the hole table?

What I have already established is that hole note in the table does not follow settings of the hole note in the dim style.

Yeah, i was just confirming that that was what you tried already. 👍

Expected that answer a bit...

It takes up more space and it doesn't make much sense for normal holes either, giving the same information as the description. 😑

I'm a bit surprised the description doesn't use the settings for notes and leaders from the dimension style.

But then again, a hole table doesn't use the dimension style... 🤔

Here's what I found with a little experimentation: the hole note style for a hole table is the the style specified in the active Standard Style's Object Defaults for Hole Tag.  See below (from Inventor 2017, which I happened to have open).

Hole Tag Object Default.png

Modifying this style affects all hole notes in the hole table.  I really wish that this style could be explicitly selected in the Hole Table style.  As it is, it is global for all hole tables in the drawing, which may not be useful.  Each hole table style should have its own hole note style specified, just as it has text styles for header, title, etc.

@SBix26 hah, i actually tried this and it didn't seem to work....

So i tried again and found i added the diameter to the wrong type of threaded hole. 😖

Agree that it would be better if the hole note had it's own "dimension style", but thank you for showing it is actually possible. (just a lot of work changing every type of hole to the desired format)

@Cris-Ideas i believe @SBix26 reply should be your solution. 😉

Hi,

It works,

And all existing hole tables are automatically updated.

But as you mentioned, it is rather not what userws expect in terms of level of coplexity required to get basic thing (you would think) done.
