Frame using sketch with equations

Anonymous
Not applicable

I have created a sketch to drive my frame geometry. I have equations that compute the number of HSS members that shall be placed. These equations determine the number of lines, these lines drive the frame. When I change the length of my structure, it automatically changes the number of HSS members needed. How can I make the frame regenerate according to the proper amount of lines?

Thanks

Alex

Hi! This one is tricky. If I understood how Frame Gen works correctly, I don't think it is currently doable at the moment. The issue here is that Frame members are driven by skeletal part (which is driven by sketches and edges). Now you are trying to use equations to drive the members. Then you will run into multiple-driver issue. I don't think it is doable at the moment.

Do you mind elaborating the need to use an equation to drive the frame?

Many thanks!

I going to take a guess that the HSS members need to be suppressed/unsupressed based on the length of the frame and the member spacing (driven by an equation) ???

If you can post a picture or your model, it would help clarify your request ....

The overall length varies and the HSS members need to be at a specific spacing using equations we have established. I attach a picture of what I am talking about. The HSS cross members and HSS braces on the sidewall are centered with each other using sketches. These sketches are patterned with the number are occurrences and spacing given as equations.  The spacing is roughly 5' with an offset of 2'-6" from the front edge. Therefore for a 20' structure, we should have 4 cross members/braces, 3 cross members/braces for 15', 5 cross members/braces for 25', etc. How can I make these automatically populate the part with the correct number of bracing for the structure?

You need to use pattern for that repeating HSS.

@Anonymous I don't know if using Frame Generator to add the members would work best as you would have to pattern the lines and then select them automatically, I don't know if that is possible or would require complex iLogic.

An easier way would be to make the outside frame with the generator, and make one member for the support that will then be patterned based on some sort of rule/dimensional equation related to the frame size.

Here is a similar thread that has lots of great links:
