Flat Pattern Incorrect

Creating a part for work with bends and a roll. Inventor created the flat pattern successfully but I believe it is incorrect. See the attached file. The bottom (smaller diameter end) should not be the same length when flattened as the top (larger diameter end)

I tried creating the part an alternative way can I was able to unroll it but could not unfold it (bend was now a curve instead of a line)

Insight? Thoughts?

Hello @Anonymous,

Yes, you are right, it is now a limitation for the flat pattern, however, the Unwrap project is underway in the beta forum already, would you want to have another try with unwrap in the latest Alpha build?

You can join the beta program here, note, the in developing project is not allow to be discussed in the public forum.

Inventor Beta Project - How do I get access?

Hope it helps!

Hi! The flat pattern looks odd with a cylinder or cone. It is because the purpose of contour roll is to ensure the linear extension on both sides can be unrolled properly. Imagine the contour roll is an elbow with two linear extensions. When they are unrolled, you would expect the linear extensions to be rolled back in parallel not at an angle.

If you want to flatten just the elbow joint, you will need to look into Unwrap (like Xun mentioned), since the deformation is nonlinear and non-developable.

Many thanks!
