Finish Sketch within Sub-assembly Bug

When editing a sub-assembly, that you have created a sketch, from within a main assembly I have found a repeatable bug. While editing the sketch within the sub-assembly

and after you have made the changes you want you'll right-click and select "finish sketch" and this should close the sketch. However, if you have a surface selected when selecting to finish the sketch you will find yourself within an odd editing mode. It appears you're in another sketch but within the part you had selected the surface of within the sub-assembly. You don't appear to be able to do anything, until you finish that new sketch which brings you to the child file as if you are editing it, but the sketch appears in the parent file. The system does not crash nor give an error.  Has anyone else seen this?  Is there a fix on the way? Please see Screencast below

I am able to reproduce this in 2019.4.  I agree that this seems wrong.

Hi! Donny and Andrew,

This is an excellent catch. There is a context confusion. The key to reproduce the behavior is to select a planar face when editing an assembly sketch -> right-click -> Finish Sketch. There will be a bogus sketch created at the assembly level. The behavior is wrong. I will work with the project team to understand the behavior better and see what we can do.

Many thanks!

Mr. Johnson,

Thank you for the reply.  Please let us know what the ultimate fix is. Looking forward to having this fixed.  I get into a groove and get this several times a day.  Wasn't a problem with 2014 that I used before.

Sincerely,

Donny

Hi! The defect has been reported as INVGEN-29860. We are able to reproduce it in earlier releases. The behavior is definitely wrong and it could lead to instability. In the meantime, you may want to avoid selecting a planar face when finishing a sketch on edit-in-place.

Many thanks!
