Filling a void

i have read several forum post on filling a void. Creating a derived component as the material in the void.

Im sorry but i dont follow the procedure.

What would be nice would be to pick the surfaces from the assembly as limits and then say 'go'.

That sort of seems to be what happens in derived components but, as soon as i select an item i get a cyclic dependency therefore my confusion. 

Can someone please define the steps to creating a derived component to fill this void.VOID.JPG

Can you Attach the assembly here (or at least a simplified mock-up)?

Hi! The process is not that difficult. However, it does depend on the existing geometry. The idea is pretty simply. Basically, you want to fill the hollow space, right? But, you don't want to fill the hollow within the tube, right?

For the area you don't want to fill, you need to make sure it is solid. Please share the files here if you cannot figure out.

Since you have mentioned you are having a problem with the cyclic dependency - I am guessing - you derive the same assembly into a new part, which you want to representing a fill. Than you try to put that part into your assembly and getting a cyclic dependency error. If I am right - you need to create a new assembly (call it Master assembly, for example) and put all the parts you need for creating a void fill in there. Those parts being the same for your Main assembly. Once you create a void part - that part will go into the Main assembly without an error.

I will try to make you a sample in a moment.

Here it is, Tim.

The files are in IV2020 format. Technically - there is no need to create a Master assembly for this exercise. The Spiral and Heat Element could be derived into the Void.ipt as solid bodies. But I went that way just to show you the way to avoid cyclic dependency in assemblies.
