Extra Extrensions .IAM.STP and .IPT.STP and .IDW.DXF

When we use Task Scheduler to create STP files from parts and assemblies and DWF files from drawings we end up with extra extensions.  The STP files end up with the extension .IPT.STP or .IAM.STP and the DXF files end up with .IDW.DXF.  Very confusing for companies we send these to as a STP or DXF file is a universal format and ours get tagged with what kind if Inventor file they were created from which our outside vendors do not care about.

How can we turn off these extra extensions so we just have .STP and .DXF files?

Its a "bug/limitation/nuance" or whatever you want to call it with Task Scheduler that hasn't been addressed..

You need to do a workaround like https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/screencast/Main/Details/b9f0f92e-2f77-420c-b518-cf...

or get a "bulkrename" app like https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php

Hi! The additional extension in the file name is actually a safety mechanism. It is meant to show that the file was exported from Inventor. And, also if you happen to import back to Inventor, it will not overwrite the existing Inventor source file on disc.

Many thanks!

Hey Johnson,

Is there a way to remove the addition file extension? For the purposes of sending batch exported files to clients it would be preferable to not include the extra extensions.

Thanks,

Ryland

Doesn't renaming work?

File_01.IAM.STP -> File_01.STP

Technically it does but this is not a valid option when batch exporting or converting large quantities of files. This issue also exists when releasing PDFs in Vault (file name EXAMPLE.IDW.PDF). It does not make sense to retroactively rename all files when releasing a PDF or STEP file package to a client.

The solution we found is using Bulk File Rename Utility (free) - https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/

Can bulk change .IDW.PDF to .PDF easily.
