Exporting from SketchUp 2017

Hello,

I am here to ask if anyone knows of a way to export a 3D model from SketchUp 2017 to Inventor as a Part. I hope to hear back soon from anyone who can help.

Save as *.stl

Import *.stl into correct unit file (inch or mm).

Run the AutodeskMeshEnabler to convert to solid body.

As far as I can tell, Sketchup is a mesh modeler, not a brep one.  I don't think you will get a watertight, ready to manufacture model from a Sketchup export.  Instead, just remodel the object and move on.

OBJ format is another option too. This similar article describes how to use Mesh Enabler to convert the imported geometry (mesh) into a proper solid.

Keep in mind that you may need to repair it further and maybe even save the file as STP then re-import it again to reduce size/unnecessary complexities.

Hi Andres,

The geometry you created in SketchUp may not have the precision Inventor requires. I suggest you look into Fusion 360. It has more versatile modeling environment.
