Hi,
I know this is an old thread but I think it's relevant to my question.
Does anyone know of a macro to exports all the parts in an assembly as separate stl files with one mouse click.
I use the stl output in separate rendering and analysis packages so I need all the files to have a common origin and orientation.
Currently I achieve this by hiding all parts except the ones I want in a given stl file and export that while in the assembly environment. Multiple parts with a common material in the rendering app, I would export as a single stl by hiding everything else first.
In large assemblies this obviously can be a bit arduous. Has anyone come accross a macro that automates this?
Thanks,
Hugh
Hi HughUK,
When you export the assembly as STL file, click Options... button to launch STL File Save As Options dialog box, select "One File per Part Instance" from Structure dropdown list (see attached image), then all the parts in an assembly can be exported as separate stl files.
Hope it helps.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks very much for that. It's useful to know that when we upgrade there is a much easier method. Unfortunately at the moment we are still using 2010 and will be for the next month or two.
Thanks,
Hugh
Hi HughUK,
Sorry to forget to ask your Inventor version that used ( I suppose you are using Inventor2012 🙂 ).
I double check it in Inventor 2011 and see this function is already available, so you just need to upgrade your Inventor to 2011 to do it.

Thanks Kevin,
Unfortunately I am in the hands of the company's IT dept. Thier priority is a WinXp to Windows 7 upgrade before they upgrade Inventor. As a company, we've basically wasted the 2011 subscription and I'm guessing that you will be on the brink of releasing 2013 before we get 2012.
So I was hoping that in the days prior to this facility being native to Inventor, someone had come up with a Macro to do it in 2010.
Thanks again for your time.
Regards,
Hugh
