Establishing tube&pipe database - beginner

Hello!

In our company I received a task to prepare a complete database (including "smart" 3D models, with parameters and styles) from scratch to full-set working environment. Since we aren't working with in-built standards, many components need to be built (we work with food/pharma industry).

I've read Getting started from 2010 but I'm still little confused about workflow.

So to summarize  my understanding of workflow is:

  1. Create 3D models (parametric)
  2. Create iParts
  3. Author&publish to library
  4. Add library to content center
  5. Create styles from content center

Working with 2016 version, first time using routed systems (atm for piping we're using different software).

Any advice or tip would be most appreciated!

@Anonymous

Your workflow is out of order...  Smiley Wink

1.  Create custom read/write content center library

2.  Copy over Tube & Pipe structure from an existing read only library

3.  Model component.

4.  Create iPart table.

5.  Author component as a tube & pipe component

6.  Publish component to your read/write library.

7.  Create an assembly

8.  Start a tube & pipe model

9.  Define your pipe runs/routes/styles..

I will also tag @cbenner who has a lot of great information on his site regarding routed system..  And I will tag @salariua as well because he too has a lot of great info on this subject matter and at his web site.  You will have to perform a search to find related articles on their web site.

Or if you have a specific question you can also post it here.

Only came in to thank @Mark.Lancaster on a fabulous reply. The links he provided are out if this world. Smiley Tongue

Google is your friend @Anonymous. Start with this one here (2009 doc but sadly not much has changed since then in T&P)  and then all the way to youtube videos like here.

If you don't know where to start and you have an hour to spare, take a look at this old video of mine here.

Now that we managed to get you confused I think you should get your hands wet and call us when in pain...
