I could be anything from invalid characters in the file name to directory
permisions you are saving to, to an actual problem with the file it's self.

Can you attach the file here?
Have you installed all Hot Fixes and Service Packs?
Is this a new problem, does it work with other files?
Have you tried rebooting.

More information is needed.

You have not even answered the 4 basic questions posted above.

Is your client still using Inventor 2008?

What operating system and system specs.

(there will likely be more questions as well, but these form a start to defining the problem)

Does File>Save Copy As work?

Is this the first time save or is there an earlier state save?

Oldversions file?

Only this file as dwg or any file as dwg?
Drawing or part file?

(the original post says *.idw)
Can it be saved in some other format and attached here so that others can attempt to reproduce the error?

(the original post says *.idw)

Try the "Save Copy As" instead of the "Save-As"

Inventor 2020, In-Cad, Simulation Mechanical

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file

tried save a copy as as well as export option, none of them work, it is just that it does not convert a idw file to an AutoCAD dwg tried almost all methods.

We used to see this when using 32bit version of the software when the OS would run out of address space. Are you using the 32bit version of 2013 ?

Unfortunately, all the poster has given us is that he is on IV2008. Numerous requests for more system information from this user go unanswered.

I wish there is some way one can remove themselves from a post as not to waste anymore time with people that can't answer requests for additional system information.

Blair, we've got two threads here: the old one from 2-1/2 years ago, and the new one from three days ago.  Prem (also posting as "Support") has answered most of JD's and your questions, now.

But I think all you have to do to remove yourself from notifications for this thread is unsubscribe (can't tell you how, since I haven't had to do it yet).

Got the solution to this through the Autodesk Support Group, Just needed to reinstall DWG Review 2013 and update 2 for Inventor 2013, this was the culprit as it carries the dwg conversion dll's.Smiley Happy

When I got this issue, I went to "Get Started" -> "Projects" and obviously it was pointing to some junk file in "Temp".

I cancelled out & make sure it points to correct ipj file.'

I was able to save.

Hello.

Autodesk Design Suite 2013 x64

I updated everything - SP2 + update for inventor

Also the Design Review and True View were reinstalled.

Still, I get the message "Problems encountered while saving the document" when I save as copy in AutoCAD DWG or export as DXF.

Please, help.

With kind regards,

                                    Alex

I used this solution. Unable to Save As or Import DWG/DXF

Issue:

Save as DWG, Save as DXF results in:

  • Clicking [Option…] button doesn’t open the dialog box.
  • Error message is shown when clicking [Save].
  • No file is generated.
User-added image

Import DWG / DXF results in:

  • Nothing happens. (Open works by clicking [Options..] > select “Import” > [OK] > [Open].)
  • File is not imported.
  • No error message is shown.
Causes:Inventor is not fully registered.
Solution:
  1. Press [Windows] key to open the Windows' start page.
  2. Type cmd. Right-click Command Prompt and select "Run as administrator."

    User-added image

  1. On "Administrator: Command Prompt" window, type cd "c:\program files\autodesk\Inventor 2014\bin" > press Enter. Then type inventor /install > press Enter.
User-added image

  1. Wait for 1 minute. (Inventor will run in the background and then exit silently.)

is there a reason why i don't ever see the save as DXF as an option in Inventor 2014? (although this solution did work to fix the save as DWG option, thx!)
