Engineering Lecturer needing help!!!!

Hi everyone,

I'm looking at buying this laptop as I've been informed it will run Inventor.

I won't be doing anything too complicated on there, just basic modelling techniques and small assemblies.

It will be VERY SLOW..

But for simply parts/small assemblies it "should" be ok..

Personally I'd pick one with a faster processor.. maybe in the i3/i5 processors.. 2Ghz is really slow..

2nd is better ...but not great ...it'll run it ..but larger assemblies, rendering, fea will slow down quite a bit

Hi Michael,

All I need it for is to create simple models and assemblies. I would also like to do some basic CAM work with the HSM add on.

I won't be doing anything bigger than 50 piece assemblies.

Do you think the second one will be ok for this?

I have an i5 ... it can lag ..that's the issue.   Not saying it will or won't since I'm not there to see exactly what you're working on.  

You'll probaby get by, but you won't be moving along fast all the time...

As for the CAM stuff with an add on ..I would look at what they say their min' requirements are ...

Can you not get to an i7?   or maybe 16gig and i5

What makes me nervous on saying yes is ..if you need to do presentations or lectures with this pc... you could lag, and that's not good during these types of events..

Second one is better..

For "small" 50pc assemblies consisting of simple parts it will do just fine..

It's literally for creating examples at home for my stdents to do in class. For presentation and demonstration I'll be using the desktops at college.

I've attached a few examples of the level of work I'll be doing. Some basic modeeling techniques, basic surface modelling and a basic assembly with positional reps.

Will the dell laptop allow me to create these without too much hassle. I don't mind a bit of lag, but obviously I don't want to be waiting all day to perform simple tasks.

Any computer that meets the minimum system requirements will run Inventor..
