DWG Underlay and View Representations

I have a DWG underlay in a part.  The only element of this part is the DWG underlay sketch. This is part of an assembly and I have a view rep with this part shown and also a VR with it not shown. So, changing VRs just turns on/off the VR in the iam.

Now in my idw, when I edit the view and select my VR (to turn the dwg underlay part on/off), it DOES NOT control the visibility of the part in the idw.

I thought that VR should control visibility of the part, but not in this case.  Is this by design?

I do not thing visual representation were meant to show drawing underlays since they are reference files.  If you want to control the visibility of the underlay by expanding the drawing browser and right click on the underlay drawing and "Include" it and then you will also have to option to make it visible or not.  See attached screenshot.

Hi Kirk,

If I recall correctly, DVR can only control solid body states in the drawing views excluding construction geometry like sketches, work features, and underlay. This behavior has always been like this though. The reason is that the construction geometry in 3D model space is used for a different purpose than in documentation. If we want to keep them in sync, in order to show a sketch or a workplane in the drawing view, the user will need to modify the DVR in the assembly, which may not be a desirable behavior.
