Drawing Sketch Dimensions

Hi all,

I have a chamfer that i need to dimension in a drawing.  The chamfer is a 1/8" x 90°.  The Chamfer Feature tool in the drawing will not properly dimension in.

Trying to come up with a way, I added a sketch to the drawing to show the extended lines to dimension from.  HOWEVER, once I am no longer in the sketch environment, I cannot dimension the sketch lines.

This sketch shows the purple sketch I created an the sketch dimension while in the sketch environment.

Is there a better way to show this so the shop understands it?    I have added a picture of the extruded plate so you can see where this is coming from.

Thanks, Steven

In the part, add a work plane on the intersection axis.  In the drawing, you can include work features and any planes perpendicular to the sketch plane will show in the browser node.  Turn the visibility of the work feature on in the drawing node and it will show in the drawing view.  You can then dimension from that line.

I hope that helps.

Best wishes.

Hi!

You don't need the sketch, you can use intersection:

I have to say, I wasn't aware of that one.  Nice, you can always learn something new on here!  Thanks!

You have one more alternative - if the chamfer note doesn't work properly, you can describe the chamfer using Leader text.
If you set the right style, you won't see the difference on paper.

Hi! There was a bug in 2022 and 2023 preventing the virtual sharp from being dimensioned. Please make sure the latest updates (2022.4 and 2023.2) are installed.

Many thanks!

Yes.  I have done that in several cases where the chamfer note just did not know how to treat it.

In this case, I needed the shop to see the extension lines to understand what was expected.

Thank, Steven
