I want minimize file size

Hello,

I got *.stp file from someone who uses CATIA program.

Current file size is 814,463KB.

When I open this file, it takes about 10 minutes.

The computer is

i7- year 2013

8g RAM

WIN 7 64 BIT.

When I use Autocad, I enter purge, audit, overkill words for minimize the file size.

Is there any ways to minimize file size in Inventor ?

Thank you so much.

Hi!

After translating/saving the STEP file, it will create an assembly and parts. Next time you will use the assembly file to open the model, not the step again.

After the initial translation and saving, the assembly file will open faster.

There are some options to open the assembly faster: select to open in "Express mode" instead of "full mode".

(green rectangle)

There are more options: if you previously created view representations, model states, etc, you can use them

to simplify the assembly when working on it, and also to open it.

Anyway, there are no miracles... the assembly is big, so, it's normal that it takes some time.

Also:

You can check if you have the red cross active in the assembly.

If so, this means that you have issues, fixing the errors will make it faster.

Hi! Is this STEP file an assembly or a part with many solid bodies? If it is an assembly, do you have one iam file only or you have iam and ipt files? Is Express mode on?

There isn't much you can do to shrink the file size. When an Inventor file becomes so big, there could be corruption or cached graphics is saved in the iam file (Express mode on) or the imported file is imported as a reference.

Many thanks!

Can you share a small image of the browser tree? Is it an assembly with parts? Try and check import options to reduce file size.

Helpful post.

I always derive an imported step to reduce file size and hide unecessary tree information.
