Drawing Notes / Text Border

I would like to add a border (triangle, hexagaon ,etc..) to a few of the notes on my drawing and then add a corresponding symbol on the drawing that references this note.  See the attached samples (taken from another CAD system).

As always, thanks in advance.

@ToddPig

You would need to create a drawing/drafting symbol with a prompted entry for this.  There's nothing out of the box to do this.  In addition if the note changes the note reference in the symbol is not going to automatically update.

Kind of sad. But thanks for confirming this so I can stop searching.

Hi ToddPig,

I recall this topic and a related Idea Forum posting on this subject. See links (go add your support to the idea).

Another option; create a sketch symbol of each shape you want.

Then use the "Balloon" command to place the symbol on the part / area you want.  Then you can right click the balloon, edit and choose the shape you want from the list of sketch symbols.  You can also override the data within the balloon from the same screen.

If you make the Sketch Symbol request a prompted txt you can leave it blank or fill it in.

Hope this helps,

Kenny

On the first attempt I was not able to get this to work. I was only able to attached the "ballooned text" to a part edge, but in this case, I need it to point to a surface.

When I read these "work around" ideas, I can't help but think "Wow, this user would love Solidworks!"

Yes,  To place a balloon you must first select an edge.  After placing, you can manually drag the arrow to a face/surface.

Sounds just like the long time Inventor guy saying the same over on the Solidworks forum.. Smiley Tongue

Oh and BTW.. You just need to make a sketch symbol with prompted text in the middle.. Not sure why the balloon command was mentioned.. Thats not needed at all..

No need to select edges or whatever.. Just insert and place as needed..

I'll whip up a screencast in a second here.. hold please..
