Dimetric and Trimetric View

Sorry, still new using the Inventor.

Trying to find the Dimetric/Trimetric view orientation, as simple as it sounds.

I need it for a manual creation.

Where is this hidden?

A search reveals some strange solutions from years ago..

Thank you.

I think the only way to do this is to create a plane in your part or assembly that is perpendicular to your intended view.  Then when placing your view you can select the custom view from the dialog box and use the Look At button to select the plane you created.  That will place the model into the perspective you desire.

This not something I do with any frequency, so I cannot speak to its efficacy or limitations.

Are you referring to below?

Windows 10 x64 -16GB Ram
Intel i7-6700 @ 3.41ghz
nVidia GTS 250 - 1 GB
Inventor Pro 2020

@0x3FA5  Thank you so much for your query. Inventor is limited to Orthographic, Perspective and Perspective with Ortho-Faces View styles as @Cadmanto  mentioned.  However, this is something that has already been requested in the Idea Station. I encourage you to vote for this functionality if it is something you would like to see in the software.

Please let me know if this answers  your question by marking it as a solution. Have a wonderful weekend.

I've been wanting this functionality for decades now. It ain't happenin'. A workaround is by using the Custom View Orientation option when placing a view or editing a view. From a standard isometric view, I select the Rotate at Angle option, use 25 and select the Up icon. This kind of gets you to a Trimetric view. See Below.

For assemblies and presentations, you'll have to install the Accurate View Tool.

Thank you!

This definitely gets me closer to what I need.

Is there a way to record a macro so I don't have to make a hundred redundant clicks per day?

Nevermind, I realize - it's Inventor.

I am referring to Dimetric and Trimetric views, extremely common in mechanical design and have been around since 1800 or so.

I wanted to list all the CAD that have this orientation option by default, but it was easier to list all the CAD that don't:

- Inventor.

I apologize, just wanted to confirm, this functionality was requested in 2015?

Honestly, I don't think many have even heard of Dimetric and Trimetric views. I've gotten blank stares when I've mentioned it to folks in the past. I think the only reason I learned about it was back when I used Pro/E before Inventor even existed. Isometric, Dimetric and Trimetric were all options in that software at the time.

@mbystry  Thank you so much for providing this answer. You are right you can add a custom orientation using this tool. I think this is the best workaround.

@0x3FA5 There are many features that users have requested in the past and development tries to get to all of these requests in time. The rate at which they get to a feature is entirely dependent on the amount of votes they have received on the idea station. I highly encourage you to vote for this functionality if you really would like to see it in future versions. Many thanks for the great inquiry!

@0x3FA5  In the image you included above, it appears that dimetric and trimetric views do not have a fixed definition as isometric view does; i.e., no angle is specified, so a range of angles is possible.

One way to make this a little bit easier in Inventor is to define the dimetric and trimetric views in your model templates and save those as locked, named views.  Drawing views can then be created directly from the model by right clicking on the model in the browser and select 'Create Drawing View', which places a view in the drawing with the orientation from the model.

I have not found a way to set the angle precisely in the model, as you can when initiating Custom View from the drawing, though.  But it appears from the drawings you may not need that much precision.  What angle do you get in other applications (Creo, SW, NX, etc.)?
