Dimesion Text adding Random Symbols

Inventor 2016 -

While placing dimensions, random text symbols are automatically being added...

* Placing a standard linear dimension measuring 1", Inventor should just display 1". However, sometimes when the editor pops up, it'll have added random characters that will need to be deleted.

check to see if your keyboard settings have changed, its happened to me where all the letters and symbols changed to something else. try looking at 'alt' codes as they have helped me before.

hope this helps

I tend to hit the alt key on accident once in awhile and manage to get ♂.

Thanks, but that's not it... We're not typing anything.

The symbols automatically appear when the text editor is opened. Whether thats automatic when creating a dimension, or later when trying to edit it.

All computers in my office are doing this.

Have you checked your dimension styles to make sure there aren't any Prefix or Suffix settings that have been added?

I think i had this recently as well, if i double-clicked on a dimension it would add the character my cursor was hovering over like it was receiving an additional mouseclick...
It went away quickly enough though and i don't know what caused it.

Other that seeing if it fixes after a reboot i wouldn't know what you could do about it...

It's pretty much like @-niels- said.  When the dimension editor dialog opens, if your mouse cursor is directly over any of the symbol buttons, it will insert that symbol.  This has happened for as long as I can remember.  The video below shows this happening (Inventor 2014).

If the insert symbol button is always fully expanded in 2016 as shown in the image you posted, then this is going to happen a lot more frequently than it used to...

There's not much you can do about it except pan your view so that when you edit a dimension, your cursor isn't directly over any of the symbol buttons.

I've never had this problem. What mouse are you using? Have you tried a different one? Latest driver?

I don't believe it's a driver or mouse issue. All (4) computers in my office have the same issue with differnent mice.

It is as CWHETTEN noted above with his video. Wherever the mouse is hovering when entering the dimension editor dialog box, that's what symbol is added.

I did some experimentation and discovered that I can reproduce this issue if I force it, though I've never had it happen before.

Although I never had this happen to me but should we considered this as an issue and have it resolved?  I can see where more users are going to experience this in Inventor 2016 and upcoming releases.   Just wondering what others think about this?

I do think it's an issue that needs to be resolved. Annoyances like this, are what cause people to look at other software.
