How do you create dimensions in an idw to theoritical sharps? I need to
give dimensions of tapered geometry at a common plane.

I'm not sure if I get exactly what you're asking for but it sounds like you
could dimension to the apparent intersection of the tapered edges. Start a
dimension, select one edge, RMB and select intersection, select the other
edge. After that select the plane to dimension to and you should get it.

Use the dimension tool and pick on the first edge of your part then right
click and pick intersection then pick the second edge. It will take a little
getting the hang of it but it works great.

Yeah, the only other option I could think of would be to sketch in the
extension lines and then dimension at the intersection, but why?
