derive function malfunctioning

Greetings,

I got an STL file. I open the STL and save it as an IPT. I create a new ipt file and want to derive the saved ipt to mirror it. In the configution it works well and I can see the preview:

but I cant turn on any of the solid bodies:

so when I click on OK, it dissapears:

Any suggestions on what I can try to fix it?

Hi

When you use the derived part, you see a dialog box allowing you to select the range of elements to be derived.

There are solids, surfaces, sketches, and parameters; there is no mesh.

STL file and geometry after import is mesh.

Hi! I suspect the object you are seeing is a mesh not a Brep body. Inventor does not support deriving a mesh. Inventor has very limited mesh handling workflow. I suggest you look into Fusion Mesh Design environment, which offers extensive mesh handling workflow. You may be able to convert the mesh to a smooth Brep body.

Many thanks!

Thanks! I used a 3d printer slicer and exported it. Kinda sad how such an expensive piece of software is struggling with something any free slicing software can do easily

You can include bodies. You can't include meshes.

The object you imported is a mesh.
