Dark appearance of Inventor parts in assemblies

Hi,

I am having an issue with dark appearance of parts in the assembly environment. Parts very often become very dark and it is hard to work with such low level of brightness on the assembly view.

Changing the lighting style or setting the cross sectional view to Top doesn't help.

Also when zooming in parts become brighter suddenly and on zoom out they become darker again.

Anyone had this type of issue before and know how to solve this?

Sometime changing the appearance helps but not always.

Below pictures show how the brightness level changes suddenly by zooming in/out just a little.

Sometimes the entire assemblies are very dark even the lighting style is set to Sharp Highlights / view i'm looking at is set to TOP.

Any suggestions from PROs ?

Hi Tom,

What are your machine specs and what version of Inventor are you using?

The only time I've experienced similar problems is with express mode, which will sometimes change the appearances of my components. You may also want to try updating all your drivers.

Inventor 2019.3  64bit (Build 278)

Win 7 64 bit / 16GB RAM / Xeon E5 1620 4cores @ 3.6 GHz / nVidia Quadro K2000 - 2GB.

I will try to update the graphic card drivers but this issue is with me for quite some time.

Thanks for suggestions about other threads. I have reviewed these before getting public with my disease. 

I have now updated the Nvidia driver to latest release from 20th March 2019 restarted the machine and the problem is gone.

The bizarre thing is that this issue comes on and off. I will see if it is gone for good or just for a while.

Hi,

The dark color issue is still bugging me.

I have updated the Graphic Card driver as wrote earlier. It was OK for some time and now its back again.

See the pictures below. Its almost like the lighting intensity is automatically turned off. 

Any suggestions what to do next?

Hi Tom,

It looks like you've got some shadows turned on, does the behavior still persist if they're all turned off?

If not, would it be possible to post the inventor files on here so someone can have a look? I'm using Inv 2017 so sadly i wouldn't be able to open them, but someone else will inevitably come along and have a look

Hi Tom,

Please share an example the assembly file. It is definitely lighting related. You may want to change the lighting style setting or use a different lighting style.

Indeed this was the problem. Shadows make the appearance very dark somehow. I though shadows wont exist when my view is set to TOP but they actually do. 

Anyway with shadows off the darkness is gone.

Thanks for the help Lewis and other contributors. Good to know there is always someone else willing to share some tips.
