custom name/label of same part inside assembly

Hi everybody,

I've searched and searched but cannot find the solution, or i'm looking with the wrong keywords.
So I hope somebody will understand my question 🙂

I'm used to work with AutoCAD, where I use blocks with attributes. So I can use the same block (part) with custom text.

I want to achieve the same result with Inventor 2018, and I've tried using iProperties but cannot find a proper way to do this.

I want to label my electrical circuit breakers and contacts, so that the labeling shows on every view I create/render I make/ 2d drawing I make/.....

Below you can see a photoshopped printscreen.

Currently my circuit breakers have a blank 'label', but I want to make some sort of custom property I need to fill in for each part so it will look like the first three breakers on my photoshop.
I do not want to make seperate files cause otherwise the BOM will not be correct.

So my question is, where can i make something that i need to fill in the name (Q1, Q2, .......whatever name it is) and that it will show on the location i want (in my case the white part you put the real label IRL)

1-Use iparts.. Each differently labeled breaker is a different member of the ipart factory..

2-Make each label its own part number and set them to "reference" so they don't show up in the bom/parts list..

#2 is hands down the direction I would go..

Inventor really doesn't have the functionality for "instance level customization" often common with piping/electrical layouts,etc.. like that..

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

#1 is a bit difficult cause i would have over 100 members

#2 is a good solution to keep the BOM, but to insert +100 labels each time in the assembly seems a bit time consuming for what it is.

Strange that a "stupid" program like AutoCAD can do it, but an intelligent program like Inventor can't.

Thanks again for the help 🙂

kind regards

Jeroen
