Custom Content Center Errors in 2017

OK, so I just finished my upgrade to Inv 2017, and have spent the good part of the day reconfiguring my content center and libraries to make sure I'm pointing in the right place for everything.

I also decided that now was a good time to create a few more custom content center families that are linked to parent families.  The intent was really just to allow me to create some custom columns that are mapped to fields in the assembly files so our BOM lists print out the way our purchasing guy likes to see them.

So I copied a few families, and now I'm in a cluster.  I honestly don't get what's going on here, and I've searched and found similar problems on this forum but not exactly what I'm experiencing.

Example:

  • I copied the ANSI/AFBMA TS19.2 family to a custom family.  Direct copy, maintained link.  Didn't rename or change anything yet.  Went into the family table, re-mapped the "Size Designation" column to the "Inventor Property Project.PartNumber"
  • Hit "Apply"...I get a "Duplicate File name" error.  Huh?
  • OK, so I open the table in excel to check it out, format the filename column to show duplicates.  Whadya know, there's 3 duplicates.  I delete them in the excel sheet, hit "Save" and exit.
  • "Duplicate File Name" error.  WTF?
  • Re-open excel, do the same exercise...lo and behold, for whatever reason an extra row has been added to the bottom of the table that duplicates a part from somewhere in the middle.  Huh?  I delete that row in excel, hit save, and exit.
  • "Duplicate File Name"
  • Re-open excel...sure enough another row has been created at the very bottom, again a duplicate of some random middle row.  I'm going to outsmart it this time, I save without exiting, and delete the row through the content center editor table.  Hit apply.
  • "Duplicate File Name"
  • Re-enter excel, do the whole custom format thing again, and this time there is a row somewhere in the middle that's duplicated.

So as far as I can tell, somewhere along the way the content center editor just decides to copy rows for no good reason.

Any insight?

BTW, I just installed all Inv 2017 updates.  Running Win 8 64.  Excel 2013.

Downloaded and had a play around, expressions seem to be behaving, so far so good!

Will give it a thorough testing in the coming days.

Cheers,

Hello everybody!

We are currently using Inventor 2020.4.2 and we have the same or similiar issues as described above. I did not open extra thread, because I think it belongs here. Hope we get the answers.

Just for a quick summary of the problems:

  1. We have a custom libraries which were copied as independent from original library (some years ago) - more specific it is DIN 938 (same problems in DIN 939).
  2. When checking original libraries now, I did not find those anomalities as in custom library.
  3. The problems in custom libraries are duplicate rows with same filename, which is no problem if they were normal duplicates, because we would just delete one out and that is it, but here is where the fun starts.
  4. We have duplicate rows (I will give an example on 1, others are the same) (image 1).
  5. If we check those rows in excel, they got same RID number and they mimic data from one to another. For example if I put "ERROR" to filename and open excel again, it will mimic the data (eventhough in CC table they are different - as it seen in image 3).
  6. OK so just delete one row and that is it right? No. If I delete one of duplicate rows, it will created a blank rows (seen in excel, not in CC table).
  7. I also tried to copied row first and then delete both of the duplicate, it went OK, but still created empty row.
  8. OK, if that worked, then just copy row, delete duplicates, delete again empty rows and you will be fine right? No. When I do it like that, Inventor crashes at the end, when I delete blank rows.

I need to enter new data for my colleagues, but I am unable to do that. Please give me some solution.
