I see the answer to my question already here
https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/intersection-dimension/m-p/8011663#M695921
before I even post it.
There is no solution, and my workaround seems to be the only way to do it. and an idea has already been posted.
I will post it anyway to get comments, and I will add my vote to the already existing idea.
How do you all place a dimension in idw between an "apparent intersection" point of a curve and a line,
and any other point. I am unable to figure out how to get this intersection without having to draw
an extra sketch on top of the view and draw the joining line in, dimensioning it, and then making it invisible.
I am convinced there is a much better way of doing this, which someone will show me
