Good day!

I am trying to create custom punch tool:

Снимок.JPGСнимо1к.JPG

But I can't extract ifeature for future using it as .ide for punching.

File for downloading here:

https://cloud.mail.ru/public/ceFa/q3pAm1ogy

Sometimes Save button is greyed out or The sketch does not qualify as a punch placement sketch. A punch placement sketch can have only one center mark. Edit the sketch and add or delete center marks as needed.

what am I doing wrong?

Please help to create this custom punch tool(It will goodif with videocast)

If I was you, I would follow these instructions.

Here's one similar to yours, except it has a bottom whereas yours has a hole.

And Autodesk Help guidelines.

Just modify either one to make yours work

One key to iFeatures is that multiple sketches have to be connected.

I try to use only one sketch if possible.

See attached example of simplifying your iFeature.

Note: 1a is the iFeature and 1b is the Punch.

Note also that the depth of the extrusion can only be as long as the thickness and ID permit, based on your die setup. It can't be any length you want.

I didn't spend any time on a formula to calculate the punch-through extrusion.
But if you want, you can do that.
If I did it, I'd base it on the relationship of the ID to the part thickness.

To account for stretch, I would measure what happens in reality, and work my formula from there.

That way you can make a table of values or a formula for the punch-through extrusion thickness.

You can make it as realistic as you want, depending on how much work you want to invest into it.

It took about 5 minutes to make and test this Feature.

@cadman777 those links don't work any more.
If you know of a step by step instruction (preferably not a video) for creating a sheet metal punch tool which is still accessible, could you please link to it?

I'm just trying to create a dimple punch of a different depth to our current one, but can't edit the existing punch because it has an iFeature table. So I'd like to make a new punch, but there's a dearth of information on how to do that...
