Create 3d sketch with u-v curves of a face

Hi,

is it possible to start a 3D sketch and then create surface u-v curves as sketch entities ?

Like this:

Thanks.

Hi Alex,

Out of box, I don't think Inventor has a command projecting U and V on a given surface like that. You will need to create patterns of vertical planar boundary patch surfaces and stitch them together. Then create a 3D Sketch and project the edges to the face.

I am curious what you want to do with the projection. Is it for positioning purpose?

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

there are several uses for u-v face curves.

1 - Diagnosing surface quality

For example diagnosing degenerate surface, like this:

2 - Use the u-v curve as a surface trim toll, like here

Trim 2.png

3 - when pathing holes referecing those curves in a 3D sketch in order to create constraint sketches for patch surfaces.

I can't find the reference that I recall seeing in the past, but search Jake Fowler seven deadly sins Inventor surface modeling.

I don't recall specifically if he showed how to expose the uv curves.

Hi Jeffrey,

Thanks for sharing those interesting classes.

I think that showing curvature combs is the only way to show u-v curves on a face. There is no way to copy them in a sketch in order to use them as a trimming tool or maybe to reference them when modeling a curve to be used as a constraint curve when modeling a patch surface.
