Copy sketch from one Autodesk Inventor to another Autodesk Inventor

I have two Autodesk Inventors running on one computer and working on different parts on each one.

I need to copy one sketch from one Autodesk Invetor part, to another different part/sketch, opened in second Autodesk Inventor.

I know, that copying sketchethes between part files works within one Autodesk Inventor instance, but I can not do this between two software instances.

Is it possible and if - how.

Thank you.

Hello @Anonymous,

There are many ways.

For example, copy the original file and make a copy in the disk, open it in the other Inventor process, copy and paste as usual. After it, close and delete the copy file.

The second one, try to make sketch blocks and try to copy or insert blocks then.

The third one, Try to derive the original file and bring the sketch in.

Hope it helps!

Can you not just use copy and paste?

It works between AutoCAD and Inventor but never tried between two inventors.

Hi! We do have a regression defect in dwg copy&paste workflow in 2020.2. We are working on a solution to address it.

Many thanks!

Copy and paste is not working for me. I have several text boxes in one sketch and use multiple emoboss commands to emboss them individually on surfaces. I have 7 parts that all had identical sketch and emboss features but were modified to be different in other ways having nothing to do with the text. The text is embossed on the rim of sprockets and the only differences in the parts are with the bores of the sprockets. I had to move the text to accomodate mold design, but when I select all text boxes in a sketch and try to copy them to a sketch in a different model, the text does not paste in the same XY locations. They paste wherever my mouse pointer happens to be. I tried right clicking and selecting copy and paste and also tried ctrl-c and ctrl-v. Same results.

Hi Andy,

The ability to copy from one sketch in one sketch to another session has been blocked due to stability reason. There are issues in the way that the documents are managed preventing such workflow from working. The ability to copy and paste within the same session should still work. It was broken in earlier 2020 builds and the got fixed in later 2020 updates.

Many thanks!
