Copy Object Select Existing Error

We use the "Copy Object" feature all the time in our designs. When in an Assembly we would double click on the part we wanted to copy another part into. Then we would right click and select "Copy Object". We would make sure that the "Body" radio button was selected, then select the part we wanted to copy and then in the output we would select the "Select Existing" radio button and check the "Associative" box. We used this so that we could do a "Combine" and the intersecting features like tabs would be removed from the part. This feature use to work fine in 2016. We skipped the 2017 update and went straight to 2018. Right away we noticed that as soon as we clicked the "Select Existing" radio button, the "OK" and "Apply" buttons would grey out and were disabled. We contacted Autodesk about this issue and they acknowledged that they broke it in the 2017 update. We were hoping that it would have been fixed by now at least in the 2019 update but it is still broken. Currently we have to keep the "Create New" selected and and just have the copied object be a surface and then use the sculpt command. This works some of the time but constantly gives us problems. We can't just create a new body because it's not Associative and if that part changes it doesn't update in the part it's copied into because when copied it becomes a new part. Does anyone else use this feature? If so does anyone know of a work around to get it working?  Currently Using Inventor Professional 2019 running on Windows 10.

From my understanding the select existing is used if the copy object command has already been ran on a part. This would allow you to add additional items to an already existing copy.

You can use the composite surface with adaptivity. Just stitch the composite together and get a solid to use with the combine.

Hope that helps clarify.
