Convert stp file to inventor native ipt and iam file

I converted my inventor assembly file to stp file and emailed to my verndor. However, my computer crushed and my assembly file lost. So now I want to convert my stp file back to inventor native file for modification. May I know how shall I do that? I attached my stp file here.

Some additional work needs to be done, because constraints and all patterns are lost.

Do this:

- Open Inventor

- Grab STEP file by mouse in Windows Explorer and drag it to Inventor's graphics area. Assy will be opened, depending on your import settings. Don't use the import as single part option

- After that, set all parts and IAMs to Grounded

- Look at screws or other parts, that can be set to patterns. Create patterns with one of the parts, set new pattern invisible, and delete all former existing parts for this pattern.

- Set new constraints, if needed. If no need, leave parts and sub-assys in Grounded status.

Thanks for your reply. However, after I open, all the ipt file is still not native inventor part file. Did you manage to convert the ipt file (from my step file) to native inventor part file?

Are you on subscription?

You need the Feature Recognition add-in to rebuild feature tree.

Or or you could use the Direct Editing tools..

Lis, you won't get parametric IPTs with imports again, and Feature Recognition only works with rather simple parts.

But you can do on dumb imported solids:

- Delete faces

- Apply new features

- Use Direct Edit (as mentioned by Jeffrey)

Take it as it is. I'm using lots of dumb imports without problems.

Yes, I am on subscription. What is Feature Recognition add-in? How to install it?

Be careful with Feature Recognition. There's an ugly bug.

Try this:

- Open two simple dumb solids (after having copied them to a test folder). Leave both windows open

- Switch to the second window and use FR there. If it's an easy part, all features can be recognized.

- Then you're asked to save them, click ok. After that you have the same dumb solid as before

Now switch back to the first window. Big desaster, because this file is overwritten with the recognized features of the other one.

Yes. I installed it. All the part needs to be done one by one.

Why, oh why would you need to do every part.  Are they all wrong?
I would do only those features that need to be changed.
