Content Center (CC) custom library duplicate error (non-unique filenames)

@ReneRepina - This reply has been edited by the moderation team as the link was no longer valid.

Hello everybody!

Because I did not get the answer on below link, I am opening a new thread on this situation.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/inventor-forum/custom-content-center-errors-in-2017/td-p/6529007/page/2

My copied message from there:

We are currently using Inventor 2020.4.2 and we have the same or similiar issues as described above. I did not open extra thread, because I think it belongs here. Hope we get the answers.

Just for a quick summary of the problems:

  1. We have a custom libraries which were copied as independent from original library (some years ago) - more specific it is DIN 938 (same problems in DIN 939).
  2. When checking original libraries now, I did not find those anomalities as in custom library.
  3. The problems in custom libraries are duplicate rows with same filename, which is no problem if they were normal duplicates, because we would just delete one out and that is it, but here is where the fun starts.
  4. We have duplicate rows (I will give an example on 1, others are the same) (image 1).
  5. If we check those rows in excel, they got same RID number and they mimic data from one to another. For example if I put "ERROR" to filename and open excel again, it will mimic the data (eventhough in CC table they are different - as it seen in image 3).
  6. OK so just delete one row and that is it right? No. If I delete one of duplicate rows, it will created a blank rows (seen in excel, not in CC table).
  7. I also tried to copied row first and then delete both of the duplicate, it went OK, but still created empty row.
  8. OK, if that worked, then just copy row, delete duplicates, delete again empty rows and you will be fine right? No. When I do it like that, Inventor crashes at the end, when I delete blank rows.

I need to enter new data for my colleagues, but I am unable to do that. Please give me some solution.

What happens if you suppress the duplicate rows? Doesn't solve the fact there's duplicate rows, but nobody will see it.

Are there any formulas contained in the Excel cells duplicating them?

What happens if you change the name of your family folder in the main family settings?

Hello @SharkDesign,

  1. If you supress rows, it still has "duplicate name" problem.
  2. Those duplicate rows have same RID, mimics data from one to another. If I change RID to logic sequence, it seems to work, but it automaticly copies old RID at the bottom of the list, causing duplicate name again.
  3. I did the copy of that library to test it, anything what I do, same outcome, duplicate name.

I just meant, if you suppress them, users won't see them.
Doesn't solve the overall problem.

@SharkDesign

Currently they are suppressed, but as soon as I want to edit something or add new component, I get the duplicate error, regardless of suppressed or not.

Did you try changing the name of the family folder?

This is my guess.

These parts have been made before, someone has then made a new copy of the family because they didn't have the copy you did years ago, or tried to make a fresh version or whatever.

Inventor still has files in the location for that family folder, so when you try and create a new one, even though they are technically identical, inventor knows they are not the same and so is trying to make a new part. It can't because the file name is the same as the one already there.

If you change the family folder name it will fix the issue, if indeed this is the problem.

Also, if you place the part and delete it (even if you never saved it.) Make some changes in CC and then place the part again, it will not worth because the original part is still cached. You need to restart inventor before placing the part again.

@SharkDesign

I created a copy of problematic library to test on it, so I guess this counts as changing the name of family folder.

There was Autodesk original library and our guys copied from this library as independent. If I check original library, it does not have this issues inside. Maybe updating from 2016 --> 2020 caused the problem (or before).

I checked the paths and there is no files created under that name yet.

The problem is not on file level, it is on table level. There are 2 duplicate rows (you can check the images) and you cannot change only 1, because other mimics it (due to same RID). If you delete one, Inventor creates a blank row automatically. If you change the RID, Inventor creates another row with the previous RID data.

But if it's been copied before it could potentially have the same folder name.

Just put the word 'test' after it.

I don't know that this will fix it, but it will start a fresh batch of files when you insert them from CC so it might help.

This is where you change it:

Right click the family and change the properties.

@SharkDesign

When you copy the library, Inventor automatically adds "Copy of". It still has the same problem.

Yes but if it's been copied before inventor might already have a folder
called that that it's looking in.
This might not fix your issues at all, I'm just saying if you use something
that is absolutely definitely a unique name, you are starting fresh and
ruling out that possible issue.

I checked, there is not such folder existing before. I created "copy of" library due to testing, but folder was not created yet, because no physical files were created.

I understand what you mean, I tried. There is still a library internal problem, because error occurs before creating files.

Do you want me to check something else?

Hi Rene,

I think the quickest thing to do is to share the .idcl files here or with me directly johnson.shiue@autodesk.com. It should be easy to figure out where the problem is with your custom .idcl files.

Many thanks!

Hello Rene,

I did some testing with your library, I deleted all rows except one. Once my family has only one row, I am still getting error message regarding duplicated File Names. So there is something wrong with your library. I created INVGEN-22772 ticket in our tracking system, developers will look. Right now I have no simple tip / solution how to fix your issue. Let's wait for developer's findings.

Regards

Hello Jan!

When you delete all rows, check excel, because in Inventor view, it seems there is nothing wrong, but in excel, you can see duplicate rows being generated. Open, change, save, close, open again and you will see the result.

Anything new on this? We would really need some solution on this, because currently we cannot add / edit / delete items in it.
