Conditional Rectanglar Patterns

Hello,

I am looking to add a rectangular pattern with quantity parameters. For example, I am building a wall. In my excel file, I want to enter the quantity of studs to be added or subtracted. So if I enter a quantity of "10" in my Excel file, I want to see 10 Studs and so on. I have it done by entering a suppression onto each parts extrusions, IF "Studs" equals <5, Suppress. Of course this gives me errors when the parts and constraints aren't present. Can I somehow enter an "IF" statement in an rectangular pattern's quantities?

Are you constructing the wall all as 1 part or is this an assembly?

Have you looked into iparts and iassemblies?

There are really many ways to accomplish what you are asking but based on quite a few details there are ways that are much better than others..

IMO a stud wall is 100% an assembly and should be modeled as such..

If you need to make different height walls then yes I would make the studs as an ipart.. Each member would be a different length to create different wall heights..

You can switch them out as needed in the iassembly for the wall..

But I don't know all the details so I really can't say what is the best process for your needs.. It may be iparts/iassemblies.. It may be frame generator.. It may be others..

I don't know how many possible wall sizes you can/will have,etc... and many..many other details..

I would encourage you to use the Frame Generator for this. You'll need to create a custom frame component library for all of your dimensional lumber profiles, but then you'll be off to the races.

Also this might be of interest. There is an iLogic form that controls the pattern, but really not much else. I think you could do something like this with stud walls pretty easily.
