Hello,

Im starting up a freelance design company, and on start up I'm limited to the amount of initial investment on a computer, so I'm trying to budget shop.  I found a model that I think will work well, I just want to make sure it will give adequate performance until I can upgrade.  I'd be grateful for any help or insight you might be able to give. Thank you!

Welcome to the community...

There's no indication what Autodesk products you are even considering.  Just given us your computer specs is not really helpful..  I can't even assume you are considering using Inventor even though you posted in the Inventor forum.  Details please?

Also for starters..  Intel integrated graphics card is not going to be really useful..  Smiley Wink

oops sorry!   I'm looking at Inventor 2017 (subscription service, if I'm reading correctly I can downgrade to 2014, 2015 or 2016 if I need to)

Now how about some info on what you will be modeling?

Simple wood cabinets with low assembly count/little detail or massive factory layouts with 10's of thousands of complex parts,etc.. or something in between..

expected "complexity" of parts and total parts per assembly,etc..

Details like that really helps steer you in the right direction..

Just about any computer will work with the "easy" stuff.. Its going to take a FAST computer to be able to stand modeling of complex stuff..

and of course the "Autodesk Inventor" system requirements are here which should help guide you..

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/inventor-products/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/System-requirements-for-Autodesk-Inventor-2017-products.html

In general.. The fastest computer you can buy and the more money you spend on it WILL save you money in time..

And don't forget.... the cost of a computer is cheap compared to paying an Engineer or even drafter who is waiting on the computer to catch up just sitting there doing nothing..

The assemblies I do aren't large assemblies, usually less than 50 parts.  Usually piping and mechanical components.  Usually medium to high level of detail.  Thanks!
