Composite materials or purchase goods material mix in Inventor

Hi,

does anybody already have a good solution to document raw materials weights used in Inventor, if it is not possible to do this per part?

Example:

US tariffs require documentation of aluminum, steel, copper etc. This can be automated by analysing Inventor models or Vault BOMs. However this becomes much more complicated for purchased goods that we use as components. Worst case would be a circuit board (no, we do not intend to model all capacitors, resistors...)

Even if we get the mass/percentage of the materials from the supplier, it cannot be documented using Inventor's material library if you just get a STEP part from your supplier.

Hi Erik,

There isn't an out-of-the-box solution to do that. The issue here is that Inventor only allows one material style to be assigned to an ipt file. A part cannot have multiple material styles (per body).

I guess you will need create a custom iProperty for tracking purpose. For example, create "Material_X" iProperty to represent another material style. However, the mass will have to be computed separately.

Many thanks!
