Circular pattern

Hi

Please see attached images and CAD files.

I tried a spline shaft using rotating the feature. After placing rotational factor I couldn't see any spline in shaft.

but it was appeared yesterday. I am not sure what went wrong. I restarted my PC, still remain the same.

I am using inventor 2023.

Thanks!

I think because you are making pattern of subtractive feature and not an additive one. When Inventor is making the pattern, it's subtracting the area you have selected turning by an angle.

Please, try the file attached.

Thanks

Hi, your pattern is not working because you are patterning a cut and not the spline.

Therefore as you pattern the cut, you end up cutting through the original spline and you're left with nothing.

You need to model the spline itself rather than cutting and then pattern that.

Hi,

Thanks to all your responses. Can pattern the chamfer?

Thanks

Sorry, I'm not currently at my computer. If it won't let you pattern the chamfer, you can either add it after the pattern, or create your spline with chamfer as a 'new solid,' pattern the solid and then use combine to add that back to the cylinder.

I have just done this and successfully patterned the chamfer. If you are having trouble selecting the chamfer, try picking it from the browser.

If you can't get it to work, please attach your part again.

Thanks

Thanks

Hi, this is because the fillet is also affecting the main cylinder.

The best way to do this is with a revolve cut after the pattern.

Probably because you are chamfering also the shaft and the pattern cannot remove any other volume already subtracted.

I would suggest to create the chamfer with a subtractive revolution (see the attached part).

Make the Chamfer feature before the Extrude/Cut.  Much simpler.  See attached file, 2023 format.
