Change Location of Old Versions File

Hello, 

My Name is Austin and my work place has a issue where when we search for parts in our server using the Windows Explorer search feature. We end up finding all the old versions as well as the current version of a drawing or part. This causes confusion among many of the people in the offices. 

my boss would like to see all the old versions end up in a central location outside of the main "DRAWINGS" folder so to remove confusion. This would allow the current versions to be in one location and a record and backup of the old versions available in another; not cluttering up things and getting in the way.

How would one do this or what else would you Recommend we do to solve this issue

The old versions functionality is built-in and I don't believe there is any way to change it as far as I know.

As stated I believe that the location is hard coded into the software to always put them in a folder directly under the parent parts folder..

However I'm curious about your file naming convention and why you even need to search for files?

Maybe if you describe how/where files are stored a logical way to prevent the need for searching could be suggested..

I have thousands of cad files and zero need to search ever.. Parts that start with 75 are in the 75 folder... if it starts with 03 its in the 03 folder,etc....

Simple/logical/easy..

At the very least just tell people that old version files always have an incremental .0001 .0002,etc... appended to the end of the file name and to just not open those..

Or filter the responses by folder..

You could set the Old Versions To Keep On Save to zero in your project files.  That way you never make any Old Version files.
