chain link animation issues

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hello, everyone!

I am in the process of animation of chain links

I have created pattern of 2 points on the path, where the distance between 2 points is a driven parameter.

I have constrained  chain link to the second patterned point.

I have set transitional constrain between the link and the surface extruded along the path.

I change the driven dimension value in animation and Chain link moves along the path the way it is expected to move.

It works perfect.

Then I created pattern of 99 points and used it for chain links pattern.

So, when I start to animate it moves for 2 seconds and then I get an error message.

The screencast and assembly are attached.
Thank you in advance!

There are a number of tutorials on Youtube on this subject.  Take a look at this link to show some of them, and search the internet for others yourself.

Hi, @jhackney1972

Again, thanks for your reply!

This is the error message I get when trying to animate the chain.

+++ Inventor model has failed to update for the current time+++

This is the explanation for reason of this error

This error occurs if you try to interpolate between positional representations that use different constraint types. For example, the first positional representation uses an insert constraint and the second one uses mate constraints.

As for now, I don’t understand how to get the solution.

Most of them use adaptive workplane for driving  chain which is not useful since it allows to move chain only for certain degree, but I need to move chain continuously.

Others teach how to build up the chain which is also not useful since I already have chain and sprockets.

So, I am trying to find my own way for solving this problem

My steps are the following.

  1. I created path,
  2. On the path I created pattern with 2 points.
  3. The distance between points is my driven dimension
  4. Made original point invisible
  5. Placed the chain link
  6. Constrained XY plane of chain with XY plane of the path , constrained center point of the link to the second point of pattern on the path
  7. Then I created extruded surface projected from the path
  8. Constrained chain link to the surface using transitional constrain.
  9. In order to achieve that I created small extrusion in the center of the chain link
  10. Then I created pattern with 99 points (corresponding to the number of chain links),
  11. And used this pattern for placing 99 chain links
  12. Then I try to animate. It works fine for 2 second and then I get the  error message

+++ Inventor model has failed to update for the current time+++

All ideas are appreciated!
Thank you in advance!

The issue is solved!!!

Yeah!

I am very proud of myself.

I have solved the issue by setting chain path part adaptive.

Hi!

The same question
Although I have set the path to adaptive,

I still get the same error.
