Center of Gravity - Failure - Always visible at assembly file - Inventor 2017

Hi!
I have a problem with Center of Gravity triad.
CoG of part file.ipt is always visible in Assembly file.iam.

How can I remove visibility? View tab ->  CoG, does not remove visibility @ assembly.

With 2017, your iam was crashing here, showing the FireEventImp message.

With 2018, I could open it. After creating a new part, dering COG-Fail-01.ipt into it, and replacing COG-Fail-01.ipt in the IAM with the new part, COG visibility disappeared here.

Using "derive" feature does not fix my problem.

I need to get rid of that triad at assembly levels from .ipt file which is the heart of my whole Steam drum assembly.

I would not like create my "Sketch part" again because it has hundreds of parameters 🙂

*COG-FAIL-01 is same part as my Steam Drum - 00 file, but without sketches.

...and when I build my assembly like that it will show triad always and I don't want to use Suppress and Level of details to avoid triad problem, because it still wont fix the real problem with that part file...

Hard to say without having the real IPT.

But in the derived part, you can select bodies, surfaces, sketches, work features, parameters as needed.

Yes I know that. But still it does not solve the real and original problem. I just want to turn off CoG triad axes.

That zipped file is same .ipt, but without sketches and workplanes so there is no other differences between those files.

Hi Jarno,

This is indeed an unresolved issue in recent Inventor releases. We thought we had fixed it but apparently there is still unknown workflow leading to this behavior. Are you able to reproduce the behavior from scratch? Do you remember what you did right before it happened?

I created that part like every other part and this was the first one which failed with that CoG.

{

New part - Empty .ipt
Created several sketches and workplanes. (1 sketch copy from earlier part)
No extrudes, revolves or any other features.
Placed part in assembly at first time and CoG triad appeared.
}

So nothing special. I also tried to derive that "failpart" to "newpart" and placed "newpart" which uses that "failpart" to that same assembly where CoGfail appeared first time and CoG fail did not appear to "newpart". Then I made whole part again from empty .ipt, copied sketches(lines) from that CoGfailed steam drum part file and no problems at new part  🙂

Is there any method to remove that triad? Somekind of file conventer which can turn off that CoG triad?

I have had 2 customers who have experienced this behaviour in Inventor 2017 (within the last month).  I will contact them and see if they can reproduce the behaviour and post their feedback here.

Has there been a fix for this issue or is it still being investigated?

Hi Carl,

The behavior seems to be random and we cannot reproduce it consistently. I was able to reproduce it once with an uncommon workflow (create an iMate associative to a sketch in a iPart factory; an iPart member file carries the COG symbol which cannot be turned off). But, after that, I cannot reproduce it again. We are still investigating the issue unfortunately. If you have any further information about how to reproduce the behavior, please let us know asap.

I'm am seeing this issue now for first time. I have tried many suggestions and still can't get it to go away. It seems to be related a specific part but only when it's placed in an assembly. The part is complex and would take a few hours to do over, don't have the time. Come on Autodesk, solve this!

The issue has been fixed, if I recalled correctly. It was part of 2018.3 and 2017.4.4 updates. Are you still seeing the issue? If yes, please share an example and I would like to understand the behavior better.

I have the latest version of Inventor 2017.
When I open that .zipped part from my first post  CoG is still there and it is impossible remove it.
So how did u fix that problem? 🙂

Hi! Could you check and see what exact 2017 update you are on? Go to Help -> About. The issue should have been fixed on 2017.4.3 update to be exact.

Oh sorry,

actually my Inventor is build 196 so it's quite old version.

My desktop app said that "Your all available updates are installed" and I thought that I had latest updates 🙂

...so you can delete this and the earlier post 🙂

Hi! No worries! You should be able to find 2017.4 update download if you log on to Autodesk account. The Autodesk Desktop App sometimes may delay the notification of newer updates.

I am using Inventor 2019 and facing the same issue. If I open individual part file it seems OK (no COG visible). But every assly and sub assly file... DAM... I cant see any part but just COG. See the attached snap. Please guide how to resolve this.

Perform a Manage/Rebuild All and save and exit your assembly.   Reopen assembly.  Is the issue resolved?
