CANT FLATTEN THIS

this is a very simple yet extremely important part that i need to flatten, and its driving me crazy, PLEASE HELP!

All I see is a couple of surfaces in your attached pictures.  Inventor must have a sheet metal body, with an applied sheet metal material (thickness), in order to make a flat pattern.  Please attach you model the next time you post so others can help you directly.  Pictures only give guidance.

Although it's not the correct workflow and as jhackney1972 suggested, you should be using a sheet metal part do this. You can however use the new unwrap tool to get an approximate flat pattern of a surface.

@Anonymous , which release you are using now? We provide the unwrap function in Inventor 2020, and it is definitely used to flat this surface. 

If you are using the release before 2020, could you attach the model here? We could investigate whether we could re-create the model using sheet metal features, and flat it.

Try using a contour flange instead of a surface loft, modify offset direction as needed in the contour flange settings. Then trim the solid using the workplane you created and the "split" tool. 

You should then be able to create the flat pattern. 

Also be careful to fully constrain your sketches. Unconstrained sketches are not good practice.

@Anonymous , I do not have Inventor 2017. And I create the script to create this model. You could take a look at the attachment. Hope it works for you.

dear this is not a solution because it is only projecting half of the shape.. i want to know what is wrong, i have a CURVE (part of a spherical shape) which i thicknessed already, why inventor is refusing to flatten it? i need to export the shape to a mill.. please help.. i did the same steps that @S_May have done, it didnt work, i got an error, why did it work for him and not work for me?
