When  using project DGW geometry, I can't select multiple lines/curves at once. I am specifically trying to follow the tutorial https://www.autodesk.com/learn/ondemand/curated/inventor-quick-start-guide/5qGg0HuwZp8yJtYcENBcGf at minute 2:12 out of 3:28.

What inventor version are you using?

Hi! Window-select should work. Please share the dwg and ipt file here or share a video showing the behavior. I would like to understand it better.

Many thanks!

Per this tutorial link autodesk.com/learn/ondemand/curated/inventor-quick-start-guide/5qGg0HuwZp8yJtYcENBcGfTutorial Link , I was following the instructions precisely and it was working up till timestamp 2:12. Right before I recorded my 12-second video I redownloaded and unzipped Project 6 folder fresh again and followed instructions from the tutorial video start, so the problem should not lie with altered files.

I was holding down the control key for the entire duration of the video, and I know my control key works other times for multiple select when not in DWG Geometry.

I have Windows 11. Please let me know if you need further clarification or if you can diagnose my problem from the video.

Hi! Try moving your cursor to the projected line to see if it is indeed projected. Or highlight the entire sketch to see what geometry has been projected.

It could also be display settings related. Go to Windows Display Settings and select the recommended resolution and scale. Right-click on Inventor desktop icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> "Change High DPI settings" -> check both boxes. Lastly, if you are using dual monitors, make sure the one hosting Inventor is the primary monitor.

Many thanks!

Hi Johnson,

I implemented all the display settings suggestions you gave, and I still have the same issue.

If I understand the video correctly, at this point in the tutorial, the dwg has not been projected yet- projecting it comes later in the video.

I do not know how to highlight the entire sketch to see what geometry has been projected. Is there a link you could send?

Sorry my knowledge is quite limited as I am trying to self-teach based solely off tutorials. Did you follow the tutorial that I referenced step-by-step?

Hi! I am sorry that I still cannot reproduce the defective behavior. Please make sure 2023.5.2 update is installed.

Many thanks!

Hi! Just to be sure we are on the same page, please share the file you are working on. I would like to try it on my machine.

Many thanks!

I'm having a similar (or possibly the same) issue, also on Inventor Professional 2025. I'll try to clarify:

The tutorial "Import a 2D drawing file in Inventor" has us import a .dwg file which is included in the tutorial's learning material download. This is placed onto the X-Y plane and the tutorial shows us how to change the origin point. Next, we begin a 2D sketch on that plane, and start the 'Project DWG Geometry' tool from the Sketch tab / Create panel on the ribbon.

The tutorial video then asks us to 'select all the segments that make up the geometry profile' and demonstrates this, highlighting each segment in turn.

Here's the problem:

On the video, as each segment is selected, those that were previously selected retain their highlight; however, this doesn't happen when we select them in the application. Hovering over a segment does indeed highlight it, but clicking it (with or without Ctrl held) does not appear to select it, since the highlight disappears when the mouse is moved away. Window-selecting the segments doesn't highlight them at all.

Troubleshooting attempted:

  • The .dwg segments can be correctly selected when the 'Project DWG Geometry' tool is not active; however, starting the tool after selecting the required segments causes deselection.
  • When the tool is active, choosing the 'Project Connected Geometry' (as opposed to the default 'Project Single Geometry') should allow selection of closed or open loops. This causes connected lines and arcs to be highlighted simultaneously; however, the highlight does not remain after clicking a loop.
  • The help page for 'Project Geometry' says that "'Application Options > Sketch > Autoproject edges during curve creation' must be enabled." This option was already enabled.

After going through all of this, I have just clicked 'Sketch1' in the project browser and found that it has been correctly created, despite the lack of positive feedback from the selection highlighting.

C'est la vie!

Accurate description of my trouble. I'll try "Project Connected Geometry' and check the sketch-I didn't get as far as you in my own troubleshooting. It's a shame that the highlighting is faulty vs what's actually selected. Thanks.
