Can't open solidworks 2018 file in Autodesk Inventor 2020

Hi,

I downloaded a CAD file from Solidworks 2018, in format .sdlprt. I have Autodesk Inventor Professional 2020 in my laptop when when I try to open that file I get the following error message:

"This file is a newer version than Inventor can read. Install the latest updates for your version of Inventor and try the operation again."

How can I solve this problem?

thank you,

Best regards,

Hugo

Attach the *.sldprt file here for testing.

If you downloaded the part from a vendor website, most likely you also have other options such as STP, which is less restrictive to versioning. I would suggest importing an STP model if you can instead.

You can also install eDrawings as a free viewer to open your SLDPRT file and check File > Custom Properties to see which "Create Date" is on the file to give you an indication if it is a newer version than 2018 (never trust what a website tells you): https://www.edrawingsviewer.com/download-edrawings

Inventor 2020.4 imports it successfully. Are you able to check and update your PC to verify this hasn't been fixed in a newer version?

No custom properties to be seen, but the only real unusual aspect is when opening this in eDrawings I see a message saying the file displayed is out of date, liking to the page below if I click on "more":
