Can't open cgr-file in Inventor

Anonymous

Hi,

I'm having trouble opening cgr-files, made in CATIA, in Inventor.

What can be done?

The file attached is a picture of what Import options I have.

Can you post the CGR file so I can check within Inventor 2016 if I can open this file.

If so I can post the ipt or a step file here.

It's not possible to send cgr-files here, I discovered. But I can send you a step-file of a simple cube, which I can't open in Inventor either (after I've converted it to a cgr-file that is).

Kind Regards

Alex

Witch version of Inventor are you using.

Are you up-to-date with your service packs/updates.

I have tested it within Inventor 2015 Professional SP2 Update 1 Inventor 2016 Professional RTM Update 2 without any problem.

I use the Factory Design Suite 2015, so Inventor 2015.

I don't know the status of the updates and/or service packs. The suite was however installed this summer.

I also discovered that I can't open the cgr-files in CATIA either.

Do we have he same settings on Import options?

Kind regards

Alex

Ok.

Release 2015 SP1 Update 3 - Date: Tue 02/10/2015.

That is what it says.

When you open the cgr-file, do you import the file or use the "open"-command?

Kind Regards

Alex

I just open the STEP file and use these settings.

Simply zip the cgr file up and post it here..

uploading step files or any other format thats not cgr (zipped) is useless..

Also note that Inventor cannot open native cad files if the version is the same or newer than Inventor..

Example.. Inventor 2015 can open solidworks 2014 and older files but cannot open Solidworks 2015 files.

The easiest solution is to simply request step files instead of native cad files from any program.. Then you never have this problem

It didn't work with those settings either.

What I'm after is to Publish Assets for a layout in AutoCAD architecture, and step-files are too large to handle for that purpose.

I also tried to publish a JT-file, but that wouldn't do the trick either. I attache a jpeg with the error message, maybe that is easier to solve.

Opens just fine on 2016..

Like I said above about the versions/years..

I suspect you are trying to open a crg file created in a version newer than your version of Inventor supports..

You can also check to make sure the CATIA V5 import translator is set to automatic loading.

tools..add-ins.. translators tab

Hum, ok. We use CATIA V5-6R2012, which is where the file comes from, and Inventor 2015 for opening.

CATIA V5 import translator is set to automatic loading.

Do you have any ideas regarding publishing JT-files?

Kind Regards
