Normally Inventor can import step 214. You can get solid, surface, point, axis and 3d sketch.

Can Inventor 2019 import STEP 214 include text and dimension?

Hello,

STEP 214 itself does not own 3D annotation include dimension and text at all. STEP 242 is the right format to contains those information.

Team are actively working on STEP 242 for 3D annotation import, please take a close attention with the latest version and updates.

Thanks!

Thanks for answer.

Does Autodesk have Another software in Product design collection can import it?

Hello,

As far as I know, Inventor is the first product to support STEP 242 with 3D annotation in.

You can participate to beta forum to have a try in 2019.1 RC build by clicking following link.

Inventor Beta Project - How do I get access?

Or waiting a while till the 2019.1 officially online soon.

Hope it helps!

Hello @ballnr,

Of course you can download it once you log in.

Please Click Downloads in the left and you will find the top 1 item in the list is the 2019.1RC build.

Click the build link and go to the bottom of that page, you will find the installer called "Inventor 2019.1 RC - Local Installer Build 200".

Hope it helps!

You should have access as of now. 2019.1 should be officially released early next week.

Thanks

Chris

Hi! When Inventor crashed, did you send the crash report? If yes, please send me an email (johnson.shiue@autodesk.com). I would like to dig up the report and understand the crash better.

Many thanks!

Is it possible to get the Step file for testing purpose?

You can share with me via xun.zhang@autodesk.com directly.

Hope the cause can be located in short.

Thank you!

Hi Ball,

Like Xun mentioned, this is a bug, which is being investigated by the team. In the meantime, you may want to uncheck PMI option in the Import dialog to avoid the crash.

Many thanks!

All,

Good afternoon!  Will the Inventor 2018 be getting an update to view the PMI imported from STEP files?  It works great for me so far in 2019, but have several customers who are using 2018.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Hope all is well and have a most blessed day!

Peace,
Pete
