Can 2013 FDS form groups in an assy?

I've been fairly frustrated w/ IV that I can form groups or layers (groups being the more appropriate term).  In Femap, (it's an FEA sofware, not really a modeler) I can form groups.  Ie. I have a part that I want to quickly identify as part of the overhead as well as part of the ventilation system as well as insulated as well as sheet metal and so on.  Right now if I have a part like this I can add a folder in the assy but I have to have the component hiearchy with one dominant.  So when I create an overhead folder I then need several subfolders to identify that a component is also part of the ventilation system.  Doing this however means I when I want to select items pertaining to ventilation I can't just look at the ventilation group I have to open the overhead>select, the floor>select, and so on.

Does anyone know how to do this or if there's any discussion at ADSK to develop this?

I do not think Inventor can accomplish this now as I believe I understand what you are trying to do. If you would like to enter a wish list item asking for this to be considered as an enhancement please use the following link.

I might not understand the problem, but it sounds like to me you should be using sub-assemblies.

When you submit to the wishlist be sure to fully describe the problem including sample if appropriate.

I guess you could use View Reps or LOD's and if you wish to look at certain "groups" of parts. This will only show the items on the screen as well as isolate the items for specific drawing views

Just insert the picture rather than attaching it as a file
