Bump Map Disappears (again and again)

I'm sick of having to relink the bump maps like a million times.

Here a video of the problem: I point the map, I click "ok", I save, I reopen the material and there's no bump map.

The file is saved in my project folder.

The "texture folder" is well set (and map inside folder, of course).

Any suggestions ?

Hi! The behavior does not look right for sure. Are you using a custom library or Inventor Material Library or Autodesk Material Library?

Many thanks!

Hello @Anonymous,

This is not come to me, noticed that your browser for texture is a cloud driver, is that true?

Or is it possible to send me a simple part file for more investigation from your side?

email: xun.zhang@autodesk.com.

Yeap, it's a cloud drive folder that i only use for backup purposes (and i'm the only one who access it), so i thought it would not a problem, right?

The appearance in the video i've derived from another appearance from my "favorites" (hence the italic). I thought that this could be the problem, so i've made a new appearance and i still have the problem. I'm sending the file below.

"Heating Mat Top" is the name of the appearance that should have a bump map.

Apparently i cant send the file from here.

I attach it but when i hit "send" the file disappears.

So sorry for the late response!

I rechecked it in my end with Autodesk Drive and it just works fine.

Could you help retry with Autodesk Drive or could you tell which cloud services are you currently working on?

I use OneDrive.

But i do not access the file from any other computer (not even in a browser).

Is it plausible that the drive service changes the file by itself ?

Because... the map file is in the right folder...

Hello @Anonymous,

I got some feedback from project team as below -

----------------------------------------------

It looks tricky. I don’t think it is a database specific and cloud disk should not be the reason either – if the image is gone, it will show error message in red on appearance UI… it seems for me that the change on the material is partly reverted. I noticed the check on Bump property got unchecked.

-----------------------------------------------

Here are several more questions -

1. Can you try without a cloud drive and see if it still happen?

2. Is it happen in another machine or not?

3. Is it happen only in this particular part file? If you have any more data, please show us and we can take a look as a whole.

I am very sorry about so many inconveniences caused.

I've just tried this. Saved ipt. and maps localy, in a folder that is not shared by Onedrive.

The problem persists. Map attached. File --> https://we.tl/t-c3gd3wtLXf

2. Is it happen in another machine or not?

Sorry, i only use mine. It will be a bit hard for me but i could do it, you think it is worth it?

3. Is it happen only in this particular part file? If you have any more data, please show us and we can take a look as a whole.

It happens almost every time i use bump maps.

Any news?

I just can't stand it anymore.

It is not only the bump map that disappears, there are materials that change (color changes slightly, metallic change to non-metallic, tint activates by itself, reflectivity values change).

It really bothers me because i am never sure i will get a good render, and i have to redo it and redo it and redo it. I lose some hours of work each week because of that.

I just want i reliable method to keep materials as i set them.

Well, for me that was not at all useful.
I still have the same problem again and again.
I just got used to the time i'll have to spend redoing my work.
