Boundary patch problem

Anonymous

I am trying to apply a boundary patch to fill a hole in the surface of my model, but I cannot for the life of me get it to work.

My only guess is that there's a gap somewhere but the hole is surrounded by lofted surfaces made from the same curves so it seems unlikely.

What am I doing wrong here?

Hi @Anonymous.,

I assume, the area I have selected is the hole you were on about, I just stitched the existing surfaces together and then created a boundary patch so there is a defined boundary to the boundary patch.

Hi! I took a quick look. I don't think Boundary Patch would yield the best result. It is because the patch surface boundary is relatively loose. You will run into downstream modeling failures sooner or later.

For this particular case, actually solid modeling can handle it relatively easily (see attached part). The key is to manage the intersection and create nice and smooth geometry.

Never focus on the final shape right away. You always want to simplify the geometry and add the detail back. In this way, the model could be modified more easily down the road.

Many thanks!

Thank you! That worked.

Yes, I can see how this approach would be benificial but I am recreating

this piece from a solidworks file and am trying to get the geometries exactly right.

That is why I am trying to do a step-by-step recreation and using surfaces.

Attach the *.sldprt file here.
